Today, I received my letter from Music Teacher’s National Association headquarters that I am officially a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM)!! It took months of work, 53 pages of writing, and several hours of recordings but it’s done. I’m so excited!
If you’re not familiar with the NCTM process, it’s a process set up by MTNA that holds up a standard for teaching in the music field. Their website states,
“Certification is a process that validates an individual’s qualifications for a specific field of professional practice. It demonstrates to employers, clients, and peers that which the individual knows and is able to do. It signifies commitment to continued excellence in professional practice. In addition, it increases visibility, builds credibility, provides a goal for personal professional achievement and validates expertise for the individual and to those outside the field.”
MTNA strives to encourage excellence in the teaching field and I am honored to be among the wonderful NCTM teachers in country! I love teaching piano and feel privileged to uphold these standards of teaching with my students. As parents seek the best teacher for their student, I hope they will always look for teachers who are certified and attaining these standards – you can find a directory of certified teachers here (bottom left corner of the page).
